Workshops & Retreats

May 21 - 23, 2010

The 13th Annual Eastern Iowa Yoga Retreat
at Prairiewoods in Hiawatha, Iowa
With Eddy Marks, Senior Certified Iyengar Teacher

Eddy Marks, has been to India 13 times to study with the Iyengars, and has practiced yoga for 34 years (1976). He is currently an assessor for the National Board for Iyengar Yoga Teacher Certification. He has a degree from UCLA in Kinesiology (the study of human movement) and teaches anatomy & physiology for yoga practitioners. Before he moved to San Diego he was employed as an exercise physiologist and taught yoga in the cardiac rehabilitation program of the famous Pritikin Longevity Center. There with the guidance of Mr Iyengar, he was the first to introduce yoga for cardiac rehabilitation which was a great success.

Eddy and his wife Mary Obendorfer, co-direct the BKS Iyengar Yoga Centers of San Diego. From 2003-2004 they spent a year in India studying with the Iyengars in Pune, India. They adhere strictly to the Iyengar methodology and continue their education by studying 2 months every year in India with the Iyengars. In June 2009, they plan to return to India for another 6 month period of study.

This Yoga Intensive weekend is open to Iyengar yoga students who have had at least sixteen weeks of Iyengar yoga instruction. It is an opportunity to deepen one’s knowledge and understanding of yoga with a dedicated and highly trained teacher.  Prairiewoods, a spiritual and ecology center run by Franciscan Sisters is located on 70 acres of natural beauty just north of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A serene and spacious facility, Prairiewoods offers accommodations for overnight guests, ample space for quiet reflection, trails for walking and contemplation, and simple vegetarian meals. The spiritual atmosphere of Prairiewoods provides an ideal environment for the practice of yoga.
